Bloomsbury publishing house tour and blog bound

So was lucky enough to be accepted to go on a tour of Bloomsbury thanks to blog bound. And gotta say Iv have past this place a mil times and never knew it was Bloomsbury since they share the building with other offices. But first thing you see when walk in on the 5th floor is this

Then rest we were able get a tour. It looks like a office but to a book reader it’s Awsome experience.

Then came to sit in there meeting room where Bloomsbury treated us to cookies & soda. And chatted some of the books there most waiting for and such.

So this was really fun and glad got to see and marks my second pub house I have had tour of other is penguin and last will be harpercollins in July for epic reads day.

Now up to blog bound that I keep saying for some reason blogger con which similar just smaller type event than convention.

The first panel was blogger slumps and how to get out of them. Stating like you don’t have to make your blog a job and be killer ect.

Other panel was where we these bloggers started and how keep a good flow going.

Last came the author speed dating. Which featured Laura sebastian author of ash princess, mimi yu author of the girl king (2019). And 2 other authors one is lizzy Nelson and she is also publicity director of Bloomsbury so she is in Bloomsbury tour that’s holding the edge of everything by Jeff Giles. Last on epic tiring day was some book mail by my co blogger which was puddin and Erin watt arc. But combined them in my total book haul photo’s.

Purity cannot abide the darkness.

It’s been two years since Ellison defeated her stepsisters and sent her evil stepmother back into the Abyss.

Though she’s learning to control her dark magic and has spent time traveling with Prince William and bringing peace to the kingdom, one fact remains. She is a necromancer and he is a paladin of light. And so, the king refuses to give his blessing for them to marry.

To appease his father, William has begun to avoid her. But when even her younger brother Edward grows distant, Ellison learns her mother’s spirit has been visiting Edward in secret, threatening to overwhelm him with her own loneliness and longing. When Ellison accidentally touches her mother’s spirit, her tainted touch condemns her mother’s spirit to eternal damnation.

Ellison resolves to descend into hell to save her mother’s soul and bring her physical body back to the world of the living. William hopes this good deed will bring Ellison into favor and finally allow them to be wed.

But the journey through hell is fraught with peril. Temptations abound and the demons Ellison sent back to the Abyss are thirsty for revenge.

Evil cannot be defeated without sacrifice—but when that sacrifice means choosing between the ones Ellison loves and her very own life, how far is she willing to go to make her family whole again?

Exclusive Excerpt

William’s panic was plainly engraved across his features. “I won’t let them do this to you. You’re my betrothed. You belong here in the palace, by my side, not shackled in the dungeon.”

He should have known as well as I did that a prison couldn’t hold me, but seeing the disgust on his father’s face … well, there was a greater plot at play than I understood, and I didn’t want William to suffer even more for my sake than I already asked of him.

“It’s all right.” I released my conjured spirit, permitting its return beyond the veil. It slipped through a seam in the air and the soldiers didn’t waste a moment before placing the restraints around my wrists.

“I’ll have you out as fast as I can,” William said, placing a chaste and yet defiant kiss on my forehead. He lingered, and so in my own surge of defiance—oh, my damnable soul, I cannot explain why I do these things—I lifted my head to slide my mouth upon his. His lips were soft and tasted of sweet wine, and I felt him press against me without hesitation.

It had been so long. I wished to sink into the earth with him then and there and remain that way for all time, but gasps arose from the assembled guests and a tug at my sleeve pulled us apart. The soldiers had grasped my shoulders and arms to drag me from William, who watched, still stricken and unable to calm his emotions, as I was pulled from the Great Hall.

As the doors swung closed behind me, my mother’s face came once again to mind. Without William, I wouldn’t be able to help her. I would never see her again, and she might spend all eternity enduring new tortures—horrors unimaginable, paying for sins she did not commit—alongside the most abhorrent dregs of humanity.

I could not allow it. How much was I willing to give?

About F.M. Boughan:

FaithF.M. Boughan is a bibliophile, a writer, and an unabashed parrot enthusiast. She can often be found writing in local coffee shops, namely because it’s hard to concentrate with a cat lying on the keyboard and a small, colorful parrot screaming into her ear. Her work is somewhat dark, somewhat violent, somewhat hopeful, and always contains a hint of magic.

You can follow Faith on Twitter (@FaithBoughan) for plenty of flailing about food (she likes to cook!), TV shows (she watches too many), and world dance (did you know she’s been performing & instructing in Bollywood-style dance for over 8 years?).

Or catch her on Facebook where she just might post pictures of her adorable cat & bird… among other things.

F.M. Boughan is represented by Bill Contardi ofBrandt & Hochman.

*Arc Review* Neverworld Wake- Marisha Pessl

“There are rules of this world, and there is what you do when life comes crashing down around you.”

This was my first experience with this author and my expectations were high. Readers lead me in a direction that this author was the best at what she does, but this was such a huge letdown.

From page one I knew that it was going to be a strange read and I’m not denying that it wasn’t. The story just reminded me of things I have read before with a mix of an episode of the Twilight Zone with a dash of the movie Happy Death Day. So for me it was a case of the dejavu’s. Kind of like a been there done that situation.

My favorite part of this book is the cover. Its beauty and it’s underlining darkness draws you in. It leads you to this creepy feeling and you can’t let go. Sadly, that was the only thing that stands out with this.

The story is obviously repetitive for reasons that I won’t say and you feel yourself being lead down this dark hole that is nearly inescapable.

The mystery that develops between the pages wasn’t nearly enough to keep me interested but I stuck with it.

If you’re interested in books by this author, I would start with something else.

This is why I should never judge a book by its cover.

First Line Friday- Bring Me Their Hearts- Sara Wolf

Welcome to First Line Friday where we share the first line in a book.

I’m going to be doing teasers for upcoming books and our book this Friday is Bring Me Their Hearts by Sara Wolf.

“King Sref of Cavanos watches me with the deadened eyes of a raven circling a corpse- patient, waiting to devour me the second I let my guard down.”

Synopsis:

Zera is a Heartless—the immortal, unaging soldier of a witch. Bound to the witch Nightsinger, Zera longs for freedom from the woods they hide in. With her heart in a jar under Nightsinger’s control, she serves the witch unquestioningly.

Until Nightsinger asks Zera for a prince’s heart in exchange for her own, with one addendum: if she’s discovered infiltrating the court, Nightsinger will destroy Zera’s heart rather than see her tortured by the witch-hating nobles.

Crown Prince Lucien d’Malvane hates the royal court as much as it loves him—every tutor too afraid to correct him and every girl jockeying for a place at his darkly handsome side. No one can challenge him—until the arrival of Lady Zera. She’s inelegant, smart-mouthed, carefree, and out for his blood. The prince’s honor has him quickly aiming for her throat.

So begins a game of cat and mouse between a girl with nothing to lose and a boy who has it all.

Winner takes the loser’s heart.

Literally.

Happy Reading!!

The Page 69 Test: The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell

Happy Friday, everyone! Most of us have a nice 3-day weekend, which means more time to read!

The Page 69 TestMy co-bloggers and I have started a new weekly blog post: The Page 69 Test! Have you heard of the page 69 test? If not, it’s basically where you read page 69 of a book you think you will like. If you liked reading page 69, chances are you willenjoy reading the rest of the book.

Instead of posting the full page, we will be posting the first 10-20 lines of that page, starting with the first full sentence.

For the first posting of The Page 69 Test, my randomizer chose The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell. As a heads up, a name has been blocked out to prevent any major spoilers (you’ll understand why) 🙂

“Esta hesitated, her body screaming with the effort of keeping hold of her present as the past pulled at her. Her vision cleared, and she saw [NAME] struggling against a trio of hooded figures, his expression determined as he fought free of them.

I have to help him…

[NAME]!”

“Go!” he shouted, looking at her with such determination that her hold of the present slipped.

[NAME]!” she screamed again as gunfire erupted and she watched his large body jerk and slump to the ground. The shock of it knocked her backward, far past the place where the dirty pavement should have caught her.

Esta couldn’t stop. She lost her grip on her own city, her own time, and was falling into light itself, barely catching herself before she landed hard, in a deep drift of snow.”

So, what do you think? Sounds pretty good, right? If you think this is a book you will like, check out the synopsis below!

Synopsis of The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell

51Jpv68VvZL._SX333_BO1,204,203,200_Stop the Magician. Steal the book. Save the future.

In modern-day New York, magic is all but extinct. The remaining few who have an affinity for magic—the Mageus—live in the shadows, hiding who they are. Any Mageus who enters Manhattan becomes trapped by the Brink, a dark energy barrier that confines them to the island. Crossing it means losing their power—and often their lives.

Esta is a talented thief, and she’s been raised to steal magical artifacts from the sinister Order that created the Brink. With her innate ability to manipulate time, Esta can pilfer from the past, collecting these artifacts before the Order even realizes she’s there. And all of Esta’s training has been for one final job: traveling back to 1902 to steal an ancient book containing the secrets of the Order—and the Brink—before the Magician can destroy it and doom the Mageus to a hopeless future.

But Old New York is a dangerous world ruled by ruthless gangs and secret societies, a world where the very air crackles with magic. Nothing is as it seems, including the Magician himself. And for Esta to save her future, she may have to betray everyone in the past.
