My Review:
“It’s all random chance. The universe. Us. An infinite cascade of chaos. A series of impossible accidents is the only reason we even exist.”
This book is like looking into the future and it is terrifying. Well, it has a lot of current situations that we are experiencing and it’s quite the eye-opener but with lots of magic. This book is one of the most unique books that I have ever read and it was mesmerizing.
Noam wakes up in a hospital not remembering much of the past except knowing that he lost his Mom and Dad and that a virus swept through his part of town. But what he doesn’t know is why he survived when the rest didn’t. That virus attacked him but it made the magic inside of him get stronger. He is now a technopath which allows him to control technology.
Catching the attention of the local Government, they allow him to join the magical elite. He must train with the others and go to class with the best. He needs to catch up on some of his learnings and Lehrer (Minister) offers to teach him until he is all caught up.
While learning from the best, he meets Dara. Dara has been raised by Lehrer since he was a kid and that is the only family he knows. But Noam knows from the start that there is something different about him. Instant attraction sets in and Noam is stuck between staying loyal and breaking the law.
Noam is an undocumented immigrant and he helps others survive in this time of war and deportation. Things start to go to the wayside when he’s helped by an unexpected source and also while falling in love with someone who is all wrong for him. Noam must decide what is more important between his heart and his purpose. With trust issues surfacing, Noam must fight for what he truly believes. But what does he really believe now?
Let me start off by saying that Noam and Dara were the best two characters. Even though Dara was moody and suspicious, I instantly liked everything about him. They were two characters that were instant love for me. Noam was full of heart and passion that I think he showed Dara the true meaning of the heart. My heart melts for them.
The Fever King was heartbreaking and powerful. Nothing will affect you the way this does. And that end will stop your heart. This is the way a fantastic book should be written and now I’m desperate for book two. This book was an instant hit with me with its heavy topics and the M/M love that goes on in-between. This diverse suspenseful novel will have you glued to its pages and you’ll have no regrets about losing sleep to finish this.
