With great books comes awful books. We must take the good and the bad to figure out what we love to read in this world. Last year was a complete dumpster fire and we shouldn’t waste our time with awful books. 2020 had some amazing books released but we also had some horrendous, eye-rolling, nauseating books that put me to sleep thrown in-between. These are my top ten disappointing reads of 2020.
Which books did you dislike?
I’m SO sorry these books let you down! but I get it, I also have a list of disappointments and they’re quite popular books, so I know it can happen. 😭
I hope your 2021 is full of good readings ❤️👏🏻

Anna K was also a huge disappointment for me! I actually ended up DNF-ing it, sadly
I’ve also been on the fence about reading Lore but seeing it on your list is confirming that it might not be for me! Hope you find some great books to make up for these this year! ♥

I was so excited to read Anna K and it just was a miserable read. It saddened me.
I kind of knew what I was getting myself in to when I read Lore. I’m not a Bracken fan, I tend to find myself getting bored with her books.
Thank you! This year is going to be filled with amazing reads for the both of us 🙂

I’ve loved reading these types of posts lately! Most of the time if a book isnt grabbing me by like 15 percent into it I wind up setting it aside. Sometimes I’ll set it aside even earlier than that!
I found Havenfall disappointing as well. Honestly I can’t really believe I finished that one. It just felt like it had a lot of potential but just didnt work well in execution.
I actually loved House of Salt and Sorrows, so we totally disagree on that one! And I really want to read They Wish They Were Us, but the mixed reviews have me holding off for now. I love mysteries set at a boarding school so it totally fills those boxes for me and I tend to pick up those types of books as guilty pleasure reads. Crave and Lore are both on my TBR.

I love reading disappointing book posts. It’s interesting to see readers thoughts on books you might have loved or disliked right along with them.
Havenfall started off fantastic but got dull pretty quickly for me. I’ve seen that book make a lot of dislike lists for last year.
Boarding School mysteries are one of my favs and it was the main reason why I decided to pick that one up. It just really wasn’t for me. The characters were too immature.
Lore and Crave are two books almost everyone loves (except for me) but I seem to dnf many books that have cult followings or are surrounded by massive hype. I do hope you have a better experience with those books.

Well I also feel like we always talk about books we love and just never mention the books we didn’t, but it’s just as helpful to know why someone didnt like a book as it is to know why they loved it!
I feel like Havenfall had tons of potential but it just fell short for me. The world was so cool but the execution was just boring. And confusing at times
Boarding school mysteries are a total guilty pleasure read for me but sometimes I cant stand when the characters arent done well at all. The Good Girls is a great example of a book I picked up as a guilty pleasure that wound up having incredible characters.
Honestly I feel like so many books are overhyped. Like Throne of Glass. There are way better YA fantasy novels out there. I mean it was good, but not THAT good. I also felt like A Darker shade of magic was disappointing. When a book is super hyped like that I just expect it to be incredible and most of the time it’s just okay

Super hyped books always disappoint me because my hopes are super high after hearing a lot of praise. Bracken is one of many authors that I don’t understand the hype that surrounds her. She creates a basic story and people are obsessed. I’m not. And SJM is another author that I’ll never understand the hype for.
I one hundred percent agree with Havenfall. It started off well with a little mystery but got soooo boring after thirty or so pages. It wasn’t really worth the time that I put into it to finish it. I’m shock that I did finish it.
With good reviews, I sometimes think if they got paid to write good reviews for a book that was awful. I’ve started to notice on social media that posts will have a glowing review but will have #ad or paid sponsorship attatched to the post. And that’s one of the main reasons why I love a dislike list. I want the honest truth about something and not something that was lighly sugarcoated with the truth. I’m so glad that I’m not the only one 🙂
