A good friend will bury your body, a best friend will dig you back up.
Dino doesn’t mind spending time with the dead. His parents own a funeral home, and death is literally the family business. He’s just not used to them talking back. Until Dino’s ex-best friend July dies suddenly—and then comes back to life. Except not exactly. Somehow July is not quite alive, and not quite dead.
As Dino and July attempt to figure out what’s happening, they must also confront why and how their friendship ended so badly, and what they have left to understand about themselves, each other, and all those grand mysteries of life.
My Review
“A good friend will bury your body, but only a best friend will dig you back up and not make you help fill in the hole.”
What would you do if your ex-bff came back to life?
SDH is an author that I hear so much about. Everyone tells me that I need to experience his books. That his stories aren’t ones you read but that you feel with your whole heart. Even though I buy all of his books for the Library that I work at, this was my first time reading one of his titles.
When books are hyped, I tend to lose interest. But there was something about the title and the cover of this book that called to me, like a lonely maiden to a ravenous vampire. And I’m glad that this book captured my attention because I loved it!
Wow! This book was emotional, beautiful, and fantastic! I wasn’t expecting to spend my Saturday night crying my eyes out as my dog watched me. This really made me think about my own life and ask myself, would I want to know if someone I loved came back from the dead? Would I want to relive their death all over again? It’s a few questions that will haunt me.
The Past and Other Things That Should Stay Buried was a fantastic read and it made me order some of his other books to try. The characters were moving and fun. This reminded me so much of a quirky ’80s or 90’s film starring some of the Brat Pack and it was the perfect book to add to my life at this very moment. I urge all of you to give his books a try, they are worth it!
i’m glad you enjoyed this! lovely review ❤
