My Review

“In the summer, I fall in love with every soul I come across, even if just for a moment.”

We were all drawn to this book by its stunning cover, then we saw the absolutely stunning art on the hardcover, and the lilac endpapers that go with it. Then the unique concept blew us away and we were already hooked to read this one.

This started off well and it kept me somewhat entertained but the more I read on, the more bored I got. The concept was something that I’ve never seen before and my excitement was high. I created a lot of hype for myself and it let me down. This just wasn’t as excitedly executed as I would have hoped.

What really made this a letdown was the protagonist, Clara. She was whiny, annoying, and kind of a bitch. So there was no connection with her at all. Towards the middle of the book, I rolled my eyes…. a lot when she said idiotic things. I like my witches strong and she wasn’t it. I connected more with side characters more than Clara. Can we get more of Paige though?

This may sound weird but you may get what I’m talking about. The relationship between Clara and Sang. It felt like an insta-love to me but kind of wasn’t. Sang made me feel as if he was smitten automatically. Umm, no. Eww.

Not everything about this was a letdown. I really enjoyed Paige and Sang. They were strong and knew what they wanted. And I call that perfect in my book. I also really loved that witches can control certain seasons but it’s rare for a witch to control all four. That really stuck out and was amazing. Give me more things like that.

The Nature of Witches was an okay read but not something I would read again. I am willing to give this author another try because I believe Rachel has more magical stories up her sleeve.
