Book Title: The Do-Over
Author: Lynn Painter
Publisher: Simon Pulse
Release Date: November 15, 2022
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Synopsis:
In this riotous young adult romp for fans of Recommended for You and A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow, a teen girl has the worst Valentine’s Day ever—only to relive it over and over again.
After living through a dumpster fire of a Valentine’s Day, Emilie Hornby escapes to her grandmother’s house for some comfort and a consolation pint of Ben & Jerry’s. She passes out on the couch, but when she wakes up, she’s back home in her own bed—and it’s Valentine’s Day all over again. And the next day? Another nightmare V-Day.
Emilie is stuck in some sort of time loop nightmare that she can’t wake up from as she re-watches her boyfriend, Josh, cheat on her day after day. In addition to Josh’s recurring infidelity, Emilie can’t get away from the enigmatic Nick, who she keeps running into—sometimes literally—in unfortunate ways.
How many days can one girl passively watch her life go up in flames? And when something good starts to come out of these terrible days, what happens when the universe stops doling out do-overs?

Mini Review
The Do-Over is one of those YA contemporaries that stays with you long after you’ve finished reading the book. The characters are memorable and the story is heartfelt and beautifully written. I’m typically not a huge YA contemporary reader, but I loved everything about this book!
Top 5 Reasons I loved The Do-Over:
- This was such an enjoyable read and made me love contemporaries a tad bit more (especially YA contemporaries).
- Nick is absolutely amazing! Definitely a character that is swoon-worthy and just charming. And I was obsessed with the banter between Emilie and Nick!
- I love movies and books that have a time-loop concept. The concept was done beautifully in The Do-Over!
- Emilie is such a relatable main character. She struggles with disappointment, heartbreak, excitement, etc. just like any person, and all those emotions felt so real to me while reading The Do-Over.
- The story is well-written, and I felt happiness, joy, you name it, while reading The Do-Over. Just an overall fun read!
