*First Line Friday* The Cold is in Her Bones- Peternelle van Arsdale

Happy Friday! Hope the New Year is treating everyone well so far.

This week we’re going with a book that I’m currently reading and loving. Who doesn’t love a Medusa inspired book?

40240290   Milla knows two things to be true: Demons are real, and fear will keep her safe.

Milla’s whole world is her family’s farm. She is never allowed to travel to the village and her only friend is her beloved older brother, Niklas. When a bright-eyed girl named Iris comes to stay, Milla hopes her loneliness might finally be coming to an end. But Iris has a secret she’s forbidden to share: The village is cursed by a demon who possesses girls at random, and the townspeople live in terror of who it will come for next.

Now, it seems, the demon has come for Iris. When Iris is captured and imprisoned with other possessed girls, Milla leaves home to rescue her and break the curse forever. Her only company on the journey is a terrible new secret of her own: Milla is changing, too, and may soon be a demon herself.

“There once was a girl with tangles in her hair. She liked the tangles. She dug her fingers into them, twirled and spun them with curious, searching fingers.”

Happy Reading!!

Unboxing: Surprise Book Mail from Entangled Teen

I came home yesterday afternoon after a long day of work and noticed a package sitting on the front porch of my house. It was addressed to me from Entangled Teen. I was not expecting anything from this amazing publishing company, so this surprise package definitely peaked my interest. And I absolutely fell in love with everything inside. Everything inside this mystery box is to celebrate the upcoming release of Haven by Mary Lindsey, which hits bookstores November 7. Haven has been on my upcoming TBR list for months, so I was beyond thrilled to receive this Haven package from Entangled Teen!

The first item inside the box was a hardcover edition of Haven by Mary Lindsey. Haven is the first book in a new Young Adult Paranormal series. Check out the summary below:

Haven

“We all hold a beast inside. The only difference is what form it takes when freed.”

Rain Ryland has never belonged anywhere, He’s used to people judging him for his rough background, his intimidating size, and now, his orphan status. He’s always been on the outside, looking in, and he’s fine with that. Until he moves to New Wurzburg and meets Friederike Burkhart.

Freddie isn’t like normal teen girls, though. And someone wants her dead for it. Freddie warns he’d better stay far away if he wants to stay alive, but Rain’s never been good at running from trouble. For the first time, Rain has something worth fighting for, worth living for. Worth dying for.

Doesn’t this book sound amazing?! I definitely think so! Paranormal is one of my top genres for Young Adult, and if Paranormal is one of yours, too, you are not going to want to miss out on this book!

The second item in the box was a Haven themed tote bag. I am a huge lover of tote bags, and this beautiful tote bag will be joining my ever-growing collection of bookish-themed bags.

Another surprise item was a Haven themed coffee mug. I love coffee and tea so this mug will definitely not go to waste. The coffee mug is gorgeous and a perfect addition to my collection! I especially love the quote!

Also inside the box was some awesome wolf themed items! A stunningly beautiful wolf charm bookmark, one of my absolutely favorite items from this surprise box. Wolves are one of my favorite animals, and the charm is a perfect fit for me (and my Siberian Husky) so this charm will most likely be going with me wherever I go. Also with the wolf charm came two stickers: a wolf and Haven sticker. Anyone who knows me knows that stickers are one of my top bookish items (along with bookmarks, postcards, and maps) to collect. A small bag of lavender was also included in this box, which has such an amazing smell!

The last items in the box were an “I’m a Book Nerd” poster, an Entangled Teen portable charger outlet (thank you so much for this!)  and two Godiva chocolate (SUCH GOOD CHOCOLATE!!). I love the poster because it is completely true! The fact that books take up almost two/thirds of my room says enough. As I like to think, my life is not complete unless I am surrounded by books.

Thank you, Entangled Teen for such an awesome surprise box! I am beyond excited to start reading Haven by Mary Lindsey and I cannot wait to put that Haven coffee mug to use!

Haven by Mary Lindsey comes out on November 7, 2017. And if you pre-order, there is an AMAZING pre-order campaign! Check out the campaign here.

Beast- Brie Spangler

“I’d see a big old globby grin on my face because talking to her is like sunshine in February, and in Portland that is no small thing.”

A very unique and current take on a love story. Do I hint an up-to-date Beauty and the Beast feel?

Transphobia is alive and shameful in the world we live in. What we have to remember is that we are all equal and must love one another to help the world grow with the times. Being a Trans individual shouldn’t come with a target upon someones back and shouldn’t make anyone feel shame. Be proud, be happy and show your true colors.

Dylan is known as the Beast. He’s tall, huge and can throw you through a brickwall just by flicking you. His best friend JP is always by his side to have him do his dirty work.

Not feeling quite himself, he climbs to the roof and “falls” off.

Waking up in a hospital, sends his life into overdrive. He must face the music and go to a self help group.

His first day, he meets the most gorgeous girl he has ever had the pleasure to look at. Jamie is who makes his palms sweat and heart race. She reveals a big secret in group and Dylan doesn’t pay attention and says it’s cool.

This leads to the romance of a lifetime. Can they both look past each others differences and be together?

JP finds out about Jamie and tells the entire school. Dylan learns that Jamie is transgender and he walks away from her.

Looking for a sign from his dad that passed, he gets nothing and leaves the greatest love of his life due to no sign and bullying.

Will Dylan ever pull his head out of his ass and seek who he truly desires? Will JP ever grow up and let sleeping lions be? Will tranagendered individuals ever get the acceptance they deserve?

The love Dylan and Jamie share is one people wish they have. I’m ready to read a new chapter in the life of Jamie and Dylan.

The bullying that takes part in this is heartbreaking. Just because someone is different, doesn’t mean that you can ridicule them and make them feel small. We are all human and can do what we feel is correct and if you aren’t happy with that then look at yourself and fix what makes you insecure.
