It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? 1/20/20

Happy Monday!

This week is going to be a short reading week because I’ll be on the road. All three of us are heading to my hometown of Philadelphia for ALA Midwinter.

Are you attending ALA this year?

I’ll be reading a book that Macmillan sent me this week.

What are you reading?

Squad- Mariah MacCarthy

32048835. sy475 This darkly comic debut novel by an award-winning playwright is like Mean Girls meets Heathers with a splash of Bring it On.

Jenna Watson is a cheerleader. But it’s not some Hollywood crap. Cheerleaders are not every guy’s fantasy; they are not the “popular girls” or the “mean girls” of Marsen High School. They’re too busy for that. They’re literally just some human females trying to live their lives and do a perfect toe touch. But that all changed after Raejean stopped talking to Jenna and started hanging out with Meghan Finnegan. Jenna stopped getting invited out with the rest of the squad and she couldn’t tell if it was on purpose or if it was all in her head.

At times heartbreaking, at others hilarious, Squad follows Jenna through her attempts to get revenge on Raejean and invent a new post-cheer life for herself through LARPING (live-action role-playing) and a relationship with a trans guy that feels like love—but isn’t. In the end, Jenna discovers that who she is is not defined by which squad she’s in.

ALA- New Orleans

Sorry that we have been a tad bit MIA lately. Justin and I had BEA in NY at the beginning of the month. As you all know, that totally wipes you out.

And Tomorrow, I’m headed to New Orleans with a coworker and meeting two friends down there for ALA.

If you see myself, Nikole, or Jen from A Bella Fairy Tale, please come up and say hello.

Are any of you guys headed to ALA?

Book Expo 2018

Book Expo took place in NYC at the Javits Center this year. For me that meant a 14 hour car ride. I could have flown but that’s too many books to ship home and who knows what kind of condition they’ll be in when they get there.

Three days of the exhibit floor was kind of exhausting but worth every single mile walked. I paired up with some great girlfriends. If it wasn’t for them then I wouldn’t have gotten to bring home so much. Book Expo is always better when you can tackle it with friends. Thank you, Melissa and Stephanie.

There was a lot of good but also some bad. The bad being some popular people cutting lines and acting like they were royalty. That really angered a lot of us. All the amazing books we got to take home really made up for it.

Another bad thing was witnessing this guy dog ear pages in his book. I cringed every time. Get a freaking bookmark!!!

Now on to the good!!

Are you ready to see my haul!? Well, here it is!!

😍😍😍 I know! And we all know what my first read was from this haul. And let me tell you, that book was phenomenal!! (Review coming soon) Most we’re easily obtainable but there was one that was a mad dash with a secret password. It was worth the sweat and the elbows.

As always, Book Expo was fun and exhausting. I got to see friends who I love dearly and who I also haven’t seen in a year. I missed all of them so much.

If you have a suggestion on what I should read, please let me know!!

Happy Reading!!

Top Ten Tuesday!! Book Expo Edition!!

Happy May 1st everyone!!!

I’m going to be doing things a little differently today. I’m going to be talking about the books that I definitely want to pick up at Book Expo this year.

Anyone else going to Book Expo or BookCon? If you spot us, come say hello!

Enjoy!!!

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

These are books that I’m dying to read and hope that they are handed out at Book Expo this year! Fingers crossed!!!
