*Arc Review* Bring Me Their Hearts- Sara Wolf

“Jealousy rises in me again- a snake that adores emerging whenever the humans do wonderful and stupid things with their mortal lives. They can risk so much, because they have so much. Their hearts. Futures. Freedoms. And here I am, begging for their scraps. Begging for an opening to take what I want and run.”

My friend, Jennifer and I thought we had this all figured out. We texted each other while reading this, filling each other in on our plot scenarios that we have guessed and we were both so wrong.

What unfolds through these pages is something magical. Something that will not only break your heart, but will blow your mind. I couldn’t be more in love with this new series.

Everyone knows I’m not much of a Fantasy reader but I’m slowly starting to come around. This is what reluctant fantasy readers need to read. It changes your entire outlook on the genre.

Let’s talk about the Heartless badass known as Zera. Her character was what we all dream of when we need a powerful woman who doesn’t let anyone stop her. She doesn’t let no man her in her way and let us bow down to this queen.

Prince Lucien was another star shining character that was easily lovable from the beginning. It was easy to connect with these well thought-out characters. I never wanted it to end.

The beautiful words that flow from page to page makes me think of Holly Black. There’s something striking about the way they both write and how they capture your attention with not only the actions taking place but the pure perfection of their words.

I can not brag about this book any more than I am already doing. I’m also going to need book two right now because that end has me on edge.

Thank you, Entangled Teen for sending me this surprise arc.

Zera is a Heartless – the immortal, unageing soldier of a witch. Bound to the witch Nightsinger ever since she saved her from the bandits who murdered her family, Zera longs for freedom from the woods they hide in. With her heart in a jar under Nightsinger’s control, she serves the witch unquestioningly.

Until Nightsinger asks Zera for a Prince’s heart in exchange for her own, with one addendum; if she’s discovered infiltrating the court, Nightsinger will destroy her heart rather than see her tortured by the witch-hating nobles.

Crown Prince Lucien d’Malvane hates the royal court as much as it loves him – every tutor too afraid to correct him and every girl jockeying for a place at his darkly handsome side. No one can challenge him – until the arrival of Lady Zera. She’s inelegant, smart-mouthed, carefree, and out for his blood. The Prince’s honor has him quickly aiming for her throat.

So begins a game of cat and mouse between a girl with nothing to lose and a boy who has it all.

Winner takes the loser’s heart.

Literally.

Thank you Entangled Teen for sending me a copy of Bring Me Their Hearts!

My Review

This book was phenomenal. A one-of-a-kind story that will captivate you and leave you wondering: “where has this book been all my life?” I’m pretty sure after reading Bring Me Their Hearts, I became a Heartless. Or, at least, I’ll be one until I get the next two books. My life currently feels incomplete without them.

Sara’s book will be one I will never forget. The story is wholly original and unlike anything I’ve read in YA. Bring Me Their Hearts will take hold of your heart (not literally, but figuratively) and won’t let it go. I was (and I still am) so enthralled with this book.

1Zera is one of the best fictional characters I have ever read. She’s sassy, witty, brave, stubborn, unique, and so much more. She knows what she wants, even when it means doing something that could hurt the people closest to her. She’s the type of girl I looked up to when I was little, and still kind of do. Zera’s main goal is to get her heart back, no matter the cost. She thought it was going to be easy, stealing the Prince’s heart. But no heart is every easy to steal.

I really liked the world building, especially when it came to learning about the witches and Heartless and where magic comes from. The history about the Royal Court and the Heartless is wonderfully juicy. The interactions between Zera and her peers, especially Lucas, are mesmerizing and sometimes hilarious. I don’t think I’ve laughed so much while reading a book than I did during Sara’s.

Bring Me Their Hearts is everything I thought it would be and more. Breathtaking. Addictive. Charming. Captivating. Enchanting. There’s not enough words to describe this book. And that twist toward the end…OH.MY.GOSH. I was on the train when I read the last few chapters and I had the hardest time being quiet and not being an emotional wreck.

I wish there was more I could say, but this book left me speechless (and it appears just writing about the book is doing the same thing). You are most definitely not going to want to miss out on this beauty, trust me.

Bring Me Their Hearts comes out TOMORROW, so make sure to pick up your copy! And check out Sara Wolf’s tour schedule below!

First Line Friday- Bring Me Their Hearts- Sara Wolf

Welcome to First Line Friday where we share the first line in a book.

I’m going to be doing teasers for upcoming books and our book this Friday is Bring Me Their Hearts by Sara Wolf.

“King Sref of Cavanos watches me with the deadened eyes of a raven circling a corpse- patient, waiting to devour me the second I let my guard down.”

Synopsis:

Until Nightsinger asks Zera for a prince’s heart in exchange for her own, with one addendum: if she’s discovered infiltrating the court, Nightsinger will destroy Zera’s heart rather than see her tortured by the witch-hating nobles.

Did Someone Say MORE Fantasy for WWW?

That’s right. Its Wednesday, and I’m reading more and more fantasy. Though, I feel as if that should no longer be a surprise to you all, since most of my reviews encompass fantasy books.

But if you notice below, there’s one book in there that’s out of sorts. It’s not fantasy, but rather part of one of my other favorite genres: Science Fiction! Can you guess which book it is?

WWWEvery Wednesday, we participate in a blog post known as ‘WWW Wednesdays.’ This was originally hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm before moving to Taking on a World of Words.

You may be wondering what the three Ws stand for. The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

What am I currently reading?

Bring Me Their Hearts by Sara Wolf

This book is everything I thought it would be and more. Zera is a fierce yet snarky girl with amazing comebacks who only wants her heart back and to do so, she must take the heart of the Prince. Sounds easy right? Not so much. I have about 100 pages left and it keeps getting better and better; though, I will admit, I’ll be sad when the book ends because that means I’ll have to wait for book two.

Bruja Born by Zoraida Córdova

Bruja Born is the sequel to Labyrinth Lost and is written in Lula’s point of view. Labyrinth Lost was one of my favorite books last year, so I am beyond excited to read more about Lula and her family. It takes off to quite the start, a very intriguing beginning. I can’t wait to see what’s in story for Lula further into the book!

Furyborn by Claire Legrand

This book has easily become one of the best fantasy YA books I have ever read. It’s got everything: action, intrigue, romance, magic, etc. If you do not have this book on your TBR radar, then you need to! If you’re looking for more thoughts on this book, check out mine and Stacy’s reviews below!

What do I plan on reading next?

Awakened by James S. Murray with Darren Wearmouth

Is there anyone that’s a fan of the TV show Impractical Jokers? That is one of my absolute favorite TV shows to binge watch, so I was ecstatic when I heard that James Murray was writing a novel. And I was even more ecstatic when I got to meet him at C2E2 AND get an early copy of Awakened. And yep, if you guessed this was the science-fiction book I was talking about, then you are correct! There’s also a mix of horror, so definitely check this out if you love reading either of those genres!

A Thousand Beginnings and Endings, edited by Ellen Oh and Elsie Chapman

Okay, so this book also has some science-fiction but from what I’ve heard, it’s mainly fantasy. Either way, I am excited to dive into this collection of short stories on the mythology from East and South Asia. Fifteen authors came together to write this short story collection. I haven’t read a short story in a very long time, so I look forward to reading all the ones in this one book!
