About CLOSER:

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kylie Scott comes a new story in her Stage Dive series…

Enter former military man turned executive protection officer Ziggy Thayer. Having spent years guarding billionaires, royalty, and rock n roll greats, he’s seen it all. From lavish parties through to every kind of excess.

There’s no reason some Instagram stylista should throw him off his game. Even if she does have the most dangerous curves he’s ever seen…

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you’ll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

Excerpt:

I’d had bodyguards before. But only for events like fashion week or a big shoot. Just for a limited amount of time. My contract with Ziggy, however, was open ended, dependent on the heart in the box situation. Once he’d grilled me about what the police were doing (investigating my entire life), my routine (I don’t really have one. It’s consumed by work), and my calendar for the next few days (I’d freed up time to finish unpacking and then back to work on my lingerie line), he drove me to the gym. There was one I used a couple of times in the apartment building, but I generally do better with some active encouragement and guidance.

Guess Ziggy approved of my Land Rover because he gave it another one of those almost-smiles. I, however, continued to receive the full professional cold front face. This was definitely going to take some getting used to.

“Who’s your shadow?” asked Kwana, my awesome trainer.

I paused mid-lunge, my breath coming hard and fast. “My bodyguard, Ziggy. You like him?”

“He’s pretty. Don’t stop, keep moving.”

“Yeah, yeah.”

“You don’t usually have one of them around. Have you been getting hassled or something?”

Kwana stood with her arms crossed, all lean muscles beneath brown skin. Since we were in an open area at the end of the main part of the gym, Ziggy waited over by the wall, just out of earshot. He stood with his arms loose at his side, his gaze constantly wandering a circuit from me—around the room, over to the exits, and back again. Always on alert.

“More a precaution than anything,” I said.

No matter how much I liked Kwana, no one outside my inner circle needed to know about the incident. The fewer people who found out about the gross cow heart and knife the better.

There’d been no further news from the police. Though it was never likely they’d track down a suspect and charge that person the next day.

Case closed, hooray!

If I’m Being Honest- Emily Wibberley

40087230High school senior Cameron Bright’s reputation can be summed up in one word: bitch. It’s no surprise she’s queen bee at her private L.A. high school—she’s beautiful, talented, and notorious for her cutting and brutal honesty. So when she puts her foot in her mouth in front of her crush, Andrew, she fears she may have lost him for good.

In an attempt to win him over, Cameron resolves to “tame” herself, much like Katherine in Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. First, she’ll have to make amends with those she’s wronged, which leads her to Brendan, the guy she labelled with an unfortunate nickname back in the sixth grade. At first, Brendan isn’t all that receptive to Cameron’s ploy. But slowly, he warms up to her when they connect over the computer game he’s developing. Now if only Andrew would notice…

But the closer Cameron gets to Brendan, the more she sees he appreciates her personality—honesty and all—and wonders if she’s compromising who she is for the guy she doesn’t even want.

Kiss Number 8- Colleen A.F. Venable

22612920Graphic Novel. “Amanda can’t figure out what’s so exciting about kissing. It’s just a lot of teeth clanking, germ swapping, closing of eyes so you can’t see that godzilla-sized zit just inches from your own hormonal monstrosity. All of her seven kisses had been horrible in different ways, but nothing compared to the awfulness that followed Kiss Number Eight. An exploration of sexuality, family, and faith, Kiss Number Eight is a coming-of-age tale filled with humor and hope.”

*Arc Review* Damsel- Elana K. Arnold

“Otherwise you risk his wrath. And a mans wrath can be mightier by far than his yard.”

This book was all sorts of messed up but I really enjoyed it. The cover is so breathtakingly beautiful but beware of what’s inside.

We all know the story of a Prince slaying a dragon to save the Damsel. The Damsel being so overjoyed that she lives happily ever after with her King. But this is a horrifying twist on a beloved fairy tale.

From the beginning, you know that this is going to be different and have a lot of people talking. The theme that unfolds is definitely not for the faint of heart. Elena paints quite the heart-stopping beautiful story and I wish it never ended.

And how it ended will forever change the way you look at fairy tales and damsels in distress. I had to reread the last few pages because it was that damn good. Was not expecting any of that to happen.

I really wish people would read this before judging it. Some horrible things happen but we all must see the light at the end of the tunnel.

^^^ How this book really made me feel…..^^^

Play- Kylie Scott

“He was, without a doubt, the most beautiful man I’d ever seen. The elegant lines of his face made me want to write bad poetry. And the sound of his voice, his words, they were all so perfect and good. But then my insides tightened, and there was nothing there to hold on to. I was so horribly empty I ached.”

I’m completely addicted to this series. There’s a depth to these stories that hit every angle and it leaves you wanting more.

We have all been in Anne’s shoes. We love a band so much that we plaster their posters on our wall, dream of taking one of their last names, and living that fairy tale rock star life.

But Anne’s dreams become reality when the drummer for Stage Dive makes her an offer that sweeps her off of her feet. Situations in books like these always come with deep emotional consequences. Can Anne survive the storm?

Sometimes Mal’s sense of humor was over the top and eye roll worthy. (I should know since I’m a pro) (Ask my husband) It was like he tried too hard to prove something but I wasn’t ever sure what. Anne even annoyed me a bit too. I’m not sure anyone would be okay with a strange man lying to get into your apartment. But those are such minor flaws.

Play is a story that you can lose yourself in. The characters interact well with one another and the sass that radiates off of them brings the story to life. This was a deeply naughty, emotional romp and you know that these stories are only going to get better.

My suggestion is that you buckle up because you’re in for a hell of a ride.

Darker by E.L. James

Ahh yes that’s right it’s another fifty shades book ;). 50/50 split for people a lot are saying nooooo my eyes. Take example my friend jennifer and her doggie blogger Bella from a Bella faerie tale she will be like my eyes noooo!! While I’m here yes yes yes. But going in I waited 2.5 years for this book that’s a life time in book years atleast though not GOT author who takes almost 5-10 years. But this is book 2 from christians pov. The first book left a tad later than Anastasia’s pov which I find oddly interesting. One thing going for book one was big gaps between Anastasia and Christians so was like reading a whole new book, unlike where I will say not going into much detail it is his pov for second but but to the extreme sounded like reading book 2 over again like i was Anastasia than Christian. Also like most shade books the writing is not very good but gotta love it for what it is I think if still are reading you knew this already. But some of the things I still loved is when Christian is not with Ana can see what he does he compassionate, besides so demanding. But get to see the scenes that we didn’t froms Ana’s like the fight with mrs Lincoln at christians party to Leila. But yea over all 4/5 stars since I can’t get enough but hoping last book isn’t 3 years away like book 1 to 2 was.

4/5 stars ~~~~ JUSTIN

Author Spotlight: Monica Murphy

Just like Stacy, I had read one week girlfriend. This book is good but by far one of the darkest contemporary romance reads we have ever read. But it’s a series, so I have to read more. This author has written more books that I’m sure I’ll check out. She is a New York Times Bestselling author and we can see why. Her books grab you from the start and you’ll still be thinking about them months after you have finished them. Some books (by some we mean all) we want to check out by her down the line she has written are fair game, never tear us apart (Stacy owns), crave and out in November is saving it

It’s our honor to announce Monica Murphy is our Spotlight Author of the week.
