“Killian:

Killian dusted sand across the report, taking care not to smear the ink of what was already lackluster penmanship. Not that it mattered. The correspondance was nearly identical to what he’d sent the week prior. And the week prior to that. All quiet on the wall…”

Praise for LAST GIRLS

“A riveting, pulse-pounding story about family, love, and what happens when the end of the world turns out to be the beginning. I loved the fierce, funny, and fantastic Juniper sisters.” ―Kathleen Glasgow, New York Times bestselling author of Girl in Pieces

“ABAO: All bets are off in this intense, action-packed thriller. Last Girls is both a sister story with heart and a deep-dive into Doomsday Prepper culture that will keep you up all night turning pages.” ―Kelly deVos, author of Day Zero

“Last Girls is a harrowing view into a world where sisterly bonds are sealed in blood, and doomsday is only a breath away. Demetra Brodsky’s portrayal of three girls living on the fringes of society, learning to question authority, identity, and the definition of family, kept me riveted until the final page.” ―Gillian French, Edgar Award nominated author of The Missing Season and The Lies They Tell

“Tense and compulsively readable. . . I won’t be forgetting the Juniper sisters any time soon.” ―Kara Thomas, author of The Cheerleaders

“This gripping thriller laced with dark family secrets had me tearing through the pages. …. prepare to stay up late reading this one!” ―Emmy Laybourne, international bestselling author of the Monument 14 trilogy

“Brodsky weaves a suspenseful tale reflective of the current political landscape, interwoven with Shakespearean subtext . . . this is a story of survival and figuring out who to trust in a world where the characters have been taught to trust no one.” ―School Library Journal

“[this] effective mix of mystery, romance, and strong, capable young women is a real page-turner and will send fans back to Brodsky’s first novel, Dive Smack (2018).” ―Booklist

My Review

“Rules breed rebels. We’ve all been taught that the black sheep is a deviation from acceptable standards and something to be avoided. Still, when you see it amongst a herd, its lack of conformity is what steals your breath and captures your attention.”

There are people out in the world who think they know when the end of the world will happen. They spread that along to anyone who will listen, thus causing a huge surge of chaos. When the end of the world is near, are you prepared?

Blue, Birdie, and Honey are known as the Juniper Sister Weirdos. They don’t live on normal streets or live a normal childhood but they do live with the other doomsday preppers on a compound in the Washington wilderness and the outsiders don’t know it. Instead of meeting friends for coffee or texting, they learn how to hunt, live without comfort technology, and survive.

What they thought was a safe community turns into something that makes them second guess everything that they’ve ever known. One of their own is sent away but not before warning the sisters. Now nowhere is safe and this isn’t what they were trained for.

I didn’t know much about doomsday preppers before reading this but I’ve heard the term. This sheds a lot of light on what they are and how they sacrifice a lot to feel safe and secure when the time comes.

What got me giddy was the mention of something that shouldn’t of been mentioned. All I can say is that they broke the first two rules and Tyler Durden will be displeased. (I am Jack’s smirking revenge)

Last Girls was a breath of fresh air for YA thrillers/mysteries. This was so much more than a preppers life and I was shocked at the twists in this book. Nothing like this has been in my possession before and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It sinks its claws into you from the start and never lets go. It was a thrill ride for sure and one that I’ll never forget. This will be the book that you’ll want to add to your soon to be read lists.

Just remember your three R’s. Be Responsible, Reactive, and Ready.

But most importantly….. Don’t Trust Anyone!!

Who Did You Tell?- Lesley Kara

“Instantly immersive, then intriguing, then insanely suspenseful, then . . . the truth. Believe me, Lesley Kara knows what she’s doing.”–Lee Child

We said to keep it a secret, that no one needed to know.

Astrid is newly sober and trying to turn her life around. Having reluctantly moved back in with her mother, in a quiet seaside town away from the temptations and darkness of her previous life, she is focusing on her recovery. She’s going to meetings. Confessing her misdeeds. Making amends to those she’s wronged. If she fills her days, maybe she can outrun the ghosts that haunt her. Maybe she can start anew.

But someone is tormenting me now. Someone knows where I am and what I’ve done.

Someone knows exactly what Astrid is running from. And they won’t stop until she learns that some mistakes can’t be corrected. Some mistakes, you have to pay for . . .

The question is: Who did you tell?

52378724. sx318 sy475

A PRINCESS
A STABLE BOY
A QUEST

It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? 4/27/20

Hello, everyone! It’s Monday again and these weeks are flying past super fast lately.

What are you reading this week?

Sparrow- Mary Cecilia Jackson

45043647In the tradition of Laurie Halse Anderson’s Speak, a devastating but hopeful YA debut about a ballerina who finds the courage to confront the abuse that haunts her past and threatens her future.

There are two kinds of people on the planet. Hunters and prey
I thought I would be safe after my mother died. I thought I could stop searching for new places to hide. But you can’t escape what you are, what you’ve always been.
My name is Savannah Darcy Rose.
And I am still prey.

Though Savannah Rose―Sparrow to her friends and family―is a gifted ballerina, her real talent is keeping secrets. Schooled in silence by her long-dead mother, Sparrow has always believed that her lifelong creed―“I’m not the kind of girl who tells”―will make her just like everyone else: Normal. Happy. Safe. But in the aftermath of a brutal assault by her seemingly perfect boyfriend Tristan, Sparrow must finally find the courage to confront the ghosts of her past, or lose herself forever….

Normal People- Sally Rooney

41057294. sy475 At school Connell and Marianne pretend not to know each other. He’s popular and well-adjusted, star of the school soccer team while she is lonely, proud, and intensely private. But when Connell comes to pick his mother up from her housekeeping job at Marianne’s house, a strange and indelible connection grows between the two teenagers – one they are determined to conceal.

A year later, they’re both studying at Trinity College in Dublin. Marianne has found her feet in a new social world while Connell hangs at the sidelines, shy and uncertain. Throughout their years in college, Marianne and Connell circle one another, straying toward other people and possibilities but always magnetically, irresistibly drawn back together. Then, as she veers into self-destruction and he begins to search for meaning elsewhere, each must confront how far they are willing to go to save the other.

Sally Rooney brings her brilliant psychological acuity and perfectly spare prose to a story that explores the subtleties of class, the electricity of first love, and the complex entanglements of family and friendship.
