Fix her up mini review

This book from description sounded Awsome and lot of my friends enjoyed the story. Start is great and pacing is great and georgette is a amazing kick butt MC for a strong will character def would say her. And the flirting in this is cute. Going in get ready to be lustfull since the book is sooo suspenseful to it. Late middle to more ending just guy seemed pretty controlling though in certain aspects I was ehh about. 4/5 stars. Like I said though great Female Mc.

Cover love: 3.5 I love how the cover has animated people which helps me picture a bit what they look like.

Character story: 3.5 Georgette’s character I loved and was Awsome!! I could look up to her.

Travis ford on other hand he is ok I like him tiny bit but towards end became rad controlling especially in bed which was a turn off and but as story goes with out georgette he would be a has been.

Story: it’s adorable story line with old school boy crush, normal person to celebrity, one that I enjoy a lot a lot so give 4/5 stars to

Exclusive Excerpt:

I shove away the damp blanket and prop myself against the headboard, my eyes darting around the dark room, searching for something familiar, searching for something to latch on to, but there’s nothing. Nothing except for the package I’m too scared to touch.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Stay down! Don’t move.
I can’t seem to catch my breath. There’s a scream stuck in my lungs and it desperately wants to come out.
She’s bleeding. Get a paramedic here.
How many fingers do you see? Can you hear me, sweetie?
I pull my legs up to my chest and rock my body, wanting to stop the noise from getting into my head.
Is anyone still inside? I’m looking for my brother.
Sweetie, I need you to let me see your hands.
Up until now, the memories of the aftermath have been only a shapeless blur. I’m not sure why it’s all coming back to me now, at four in the morning. I remember the police arriving and more gunshots. I remember the paramedics taking me outside. I remember sitting in the van while some woman in uniform is trying to talk to me, and I remember watching Mikah moving through the crowd outside the club. There’s blood dripping down his cheek, but I don’t think he’s hurt. I think the blood is mine. He stops one of the officers and asks him questions, and I can tell by how fast his hands move that he’s panicking. There’s a short exchange and then they’re gone.
Now I’m in the hospital, and my parents tell me Dakota was shot to death during the attack. That’s all I get. No details. They don’t tell me how many times he was shot or where he was standing when it happened or if it was an instant death or a slow one where he lay there, terrified, watching the horror around him.
I replay this moment in my head several times, wondering if I should have said or done something differently. Cried maybe. But I didn’t. I just sat there in silence, my hands and my face bleeding. I sat there waiting to wake up, waiting to snap back into my normal life. But it never happened.

*Arc Review* The Bride Test by Helen Hoang

39338454Khai Diep has no feelings. Well, he feels irritation when people move his things or contentment when ledgers balance down to the penny, but not big, important emotions—like grief. And love. He thinks he’s defective. His family knows better—that his autism means he just processes emotions differently. When he steadfastly avoids relationships, his mother takes matters into her own hands and returns to Vietnam to find him the perfect bride.

As a mixed-race girl living in the slums of Ho Chi Minh City, Esme Tran has always felt out of place. When the opportunity arises to come to America and meet a potential husband, she can’t turn it down, thinking this could be the break her family needs. Seducing Khai, however, doesn’t go as planned. Esme’s lessons in love seem to be working…but only on herself. She’s hopelessly smitten with a man who’s convinced he can never return her affection.

With Esme’s time in the United States dwindling, Khai is forced to understand he’s been wrong all along. And there’s more than one way to love.

I received an arc from the First to Read website hosted by Penguin Random House.

You don’t know how excited I was when I saw this book pop up. I’ve been wanting to read this since I’ve finished The Kiss Quotient, which was one of my top romances of last year. It contained a nice mix of romance and diverse character portrayals throughout.

Book two is written in the same style where the main male character has autism whereas The Kiss Quotient the female lead has autism.

The storyline of the book is Khai feels as if he can’t find love since he doesn’t feel it, which makes him feel content. His is family takes matters into their own hands by going to Vietnam. They plan on bringing back a woman for him to meet for an arranged marriage. This is where Esme comes in (she is the other main MC). She is quiet, determined, and strong-willed. But she takes a chance to help her family to start a new life since she is living in an extremely poor part of Vietnam. In this awkward tale, can these two work?

Well, I enjoyed this one but not as much as The Kiss Quotient. I thought this book did a fantastic job of explaining the day to day life of someone dealing with autism, coming from myself who is special ed. Another thing I’ve come to learn, that I love in books, is a dual pov for the main characters. Esme was spot on as being very strong-willed while able to be vulnerable and always thinking about how to help her family. It’s harder to figure out what Khai is thinking due to this thought process. It was good but also confusing to figure out.

But this story was really cute. Esme is always trying to be her best and was always trying to help Khai be better. It takes time to like Khai because he is sooo stubborn but he has his cute moments. You just have to wait and see.

The plot mixed well, from Esme traveling from Vietnam to the States and the romance that blooms between Esme and Khai as he learns the things he can and can’t do. Helen paints a beautiful picture of how love can overcome anything.

My rating is 4/5 stars!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

laurieboylecrompton (1)Laurie Boyle Crompton is the YA author of the upcoming PRETTY IN PUNXSUTAWNEY (Blink/HarperCollins 2019) as well as ADRENALINE CRUSH (Macmillan/2014, Square Fish/2016), BLAZE (or Love in the Time of Supervillains), THE REAL PROM QUEENS OF WESTFIELD HIGH and LOVE AND VANDALISM (Sourcebooks/2013, 2014, 2017). Growing up in ‘Pennsyltucky’ in the 1980s, Laurie couldn’t wait to escape rural life. After saving up her tips from waitressing at a local greasy spoon at 18 she packed up her acid wash jeans and moved to NY. Where everyone else had stopped wearing acid wash.

She graduated first in her class from St. John’s University with a BA in English and Journalism. Since then she’s written for national magazines like ALLURE, survived a teaching stint at an all-boy high school, and appeared on Good Day New York several times as a Toy Expert. And yes, ‘toy expert’ is an actual profession. Really.

She has lived in places like Orlando, Florida where she and her husband spent all of their spare time and money visiting theme parks before moving to the Cotswolds in England for six months, which was every bit as cool as that sounds. The Cromptons are now back in New York where their two children resent never going to Disney.

Laurie occasionally enjoys hanging out in fields of blooming flowers and also refering to herself in the third person.

MY REVIEW

This book was absolutely adorable! When I read that Groundhog Day would be the main basis for this book, I knew I needed to read this. Pretty in Punxsutawney is a cute and fast-read contemporary that hooked me from the very beginning. It’s a wonderful mash-up of Groundhog Day and Pretty In Pink, which makes for a fun and laugh-at-loud read. I loved how much Andie evolved over those repeating days. Each day brought a new scenario for Andie, which gave the reader a little snippet into another part of Andie’s personality.

When Andie wakes up the next morning after her first day of school, only to find out that she’s reliving the same day over and over again, she thinks it’s a blessing, yet also a curse. She thinks it’s the world’s way of telling her to get the day right and to find true love. And, of course, to get her first kiss. But little does she know that not everything is going to go as planned and not everyone is who they seem. And maybe, just maybe, you don’t need a kiss to break a time loop.

I loved Andie as a character. She’s strong and funny and someone I could really connect with throughout the book. I enjoyed seeing her dynamics with the many characters along the way, especially with Tom. She interacts with kids from different cliques in her high school, where she sees that many people put on an image at school and hide who they really are. And through all these characters, all these interactions, she starts to understand the person she wants to be. Even though her days are filled with angst and high school drama (like having to deal with a girl trying to steal the guy she thinks she likes), she stills fights to figure out who she is and what she’s supposed to do to break the curse.

One of my favorite things about Pretty in Punxsutawney was all the references to classic 80s movies, like Pretty in Pink. I’m a huge movie buff, so I loved all the references and how they all incorporated into the story. Andie references some of her mom’s favorite 80s movies to help her get through each repeat day, and each movie reference helps create a different outcome, which, in turn, teaches Andie something about herself she didn’t know.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Pretty in Punxsutawney. It was different from any contemporary books I have read and referring to 80s nostalgic movies definitely put the cherry on top. If you enjoy contemporaries with big-screen features similar to Groundhog Day and other well-known movies, I highly recommend!

Pretty in Punxsutawney comes out January 15, 2019!
