Praise for ISAN Series“Addictive and impossible to put it down!” —Addison Moore, New York Times Bestselling Author

“Captivating from the very beginning, this sci-fi novel explores issues of autonomy and survival in a world where there are few remaining citizens after meteors crashed into Earth … this thrilling dystopian drama has a splash of romance and tons of action. The fast-paced chapters will engage reluctant readers and fans of post-apocalyptic scenarios.” —School Library Journal

“ISAN will leave readers breathless with anticipation as they race through each exciting page.” —Tiffany King, USA Today Bestselling Author

Allegiances will be tested. Identities will be revealed. No one is safe.

While searching for the HelixB88 anti-serum on the black market, Ava uncovers valuable intel that may help the rebels in their fight to bring down ISAN—the location of a hidden facility. But first, the insurgents must find the female citizens unexpectedly displaying powers without use of the Helix serum before ISAN captures them. As the rebels join forces with other sectors, ISAN plans their destruction by using someone they don’t suspect at the rebel home base: a traitor within.

Footprints were scattered about like fallen leaves. She looked down into the ravine, and once more her lungs filled with fear. A body, blackened and motionless lay splayed out in the bushes.

Detective Megan Carpenter is no stranger to evil. Escaping the horrors of her old life, she’s vowed never to let anyone hurt her or those she loves ever again. Joining the small police force in Jefferson County’s Port Townsend, Megan is determined to get every victim of a crime the justice they deserve.

So when Ruth Turner walks into the Sheriff’s office claiming her sister Ida Watson has been missing for over a month, Megan’s instincts tell her that she needs to do more than just file a report.

Arriving at a secluded farmhouse in the hills above Snow Creek, she finds Ida’s teenage children alone and frightened.

Then a few days later, close to the Watsons’ home, the blackened body of a woman is discovered in an abandoned pickup truck.

Megan must unravel the disturbing secrets of the isolated Snow Creek community if she is to catch the killer.

But Megan has dark secrets of her own too…

Hidden in the back of her closet is a box of tapes containing every single recording of her therapy sessions with Doctor Albright over thirteen years ago. As Megan begins to play the tapes, she’s taken straight back to her terrifying childhood, back to the time she was a kid called Rylee, fighting to survive.

Can Megan finally confront the past she’s spent years trying to block out and will listening to her own painful story help her solve the complex case she is now entangled in?

From the Number One New York Times and Amazon Charts bestselling author, comes an absolutely heart-stopping and completely unputdownable crime series, introducing Detective Megan Carpenter.

Exclusive Excerpt:

It took her two trips to bring the body parts to the firepit, a location that had been the center of activity when she and Amy still had visitors. S’mores. Puffs of marijuana. Long, drunken stories about people they loved and hated.
Regina used some fat rendered from a goat she’d slaughtered to help ignite the pieces of what remained of the nameless dead man. She piled on the wood and set the fire. She knew it would take a long time, probably all night.
When they first moved there one of their friends hit a doe and someone came up with the bright idea of cremating the animal’s remains. The worst idea ever. It sent up a stream of acrid smoke and the fire hissed as the animal’s fat was consumed. A person’s pre-burned body couldn’t be that bad. Or could it? When the night was over the deer was gone. Even some of the bones had burned. Gone. That’s just what she needed. She knew that no one would pay any attention to the pyre.
Once she’d burned a mattress sending a tornado of black smoke into the sky. No one said a word. No one complained of the smell either. In Snow Creek, she mused, burning a body was a private, do-not-disturb affair. Like a lot of things out there. She watched the blaze take off and then hurried inside to tell Amy that she was finally getting to some of that trash that had piled up in the barn.
“How’d it go? Did you bury the body?” “Yes. I did.”
“In the woods?”
“Yes, baby, in the woods.”

Regina felt Amy’s lips against hers. So warm and lovely. So perfect.
“You get some rest. I’m going to watch the fire.” “I love you.”
“I love you forever and a day.”
Their love, they both knew, was everlasting.

A poignant exploration of family and the ties that bind, perfect for fans of Far From the Tree, from New York Times bestselling author Cynthia Hand.

Today Melly had us writing letters to our babies…

Cassandra McMurtrey has the best parents a girl could ask for. They’ve given Cass a life she wouldn’t trade for the world. She has everything she needs—except maybe the one thing she wants. Like, to know who she is. Where she came from. Questions her adoptive parents can’t answer, no matter how much they love her.

But eighteen years ago, someone wrote Cass a series of letters. And they may just hold the answers Cass has been searching for.

Alternating between Cass’s search for answers and letters from the pregnant teen who gave her up for adoption, this voice-driven narrative is the perfect read for fans of Nina LaCour and Jandy Nelson.

My Review:

“To me, you’re still sort of intangible. I know you’re in there, but you’re not obvious yet. You’re tight pants. You’re heartburn. You’re the space alien slowly taking over my body. You’re X.”

Going into this book, I thought it was going to be an easy read. Oh, I was so wrong. It was deeply emotional and beautiful. I found my eyes filling with tears as I read Cassandra’s story. Family stories are a definite must-read and I never wanted this to end.

Cassandra is adopted and she never knew her biological parents. She just turned eighteen and has questions about who she is and who her biological parents are. Cass starts filling out forms to request all the information she can get and even turns to adoption websites for answers.

She finds out that her biological mother wrote her letters during her pregnancy. They may hold clues on who her biological parents are and lead her in the right direction to discovering herself.

This all happens during the most important part of a persons life, senior year of high school. Cassandra and her friends should be worrying about graduating, choosing the perfect school, and having all of your firsts. Cassandra and her best friend, Nyla have more on their plate.

Will Cassandra find the answers she’s looking for? Or will all of this come to a dead end?

Cassandra’s story is something that I didn’t know much about. I didn’t know how the adoption process works and I was glad to learn something. You’ll fall in love with Cassandra, her family, and her friends. Even though you don’t get to see Cassandra’s biological Mom much, you’ll realize that she was one of the strongest characters here. I really would love to read more about her.

The How & The Why is such a moving book, it actually brought me to tears numerous times. This book made me feel more human than I have ever felt. I hesitated with this book and I shouldn’t have. It opened my eyes and I know it’ll open yours.

Just remember to be the best you.

Thank you for all the support over the years, the gigs, the love and most of all memories. Don’t trust anyone and stay metal—Vaughan.

When she isn’t filling pages with sassy and sexy characters with attitude, she’s living her own reality show in the ‘burbs of Melbourne with her American husband, two teenage children, and her fur child—Woodley.

40879919Series: Fat Angie
Hardcover: 352 pages
Publisher: Candlewick (March 5, 2019)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0763693456

More trouble at school and at home — and the discovery of a missive from her late soldier sister — send Angie and a long-ago friend on an RV road trip across Ohio.

Sophomore year has just begun, and Angie is miserable. Her girlfriend, KC, has moved away; her good friend, Jake, is keeping his distance; and the resident bully has ramped up an increasingly vicious and targeted campaign to humiliate her. An over-the-top statue dedication planned for her sister, who died in Iraq, is almost too much to bear, and it doesn’t help that her mother has placed a symbolic empty urn on their mantel. At the ceremony, a soldier hands Angie a final letter from her sister, including a list of places she wanted the two of them to visit when she got home from the war. With her mother threatening to send Angie to a “treatment center” and the situation at school becoming violent, Angie enlists the help of her estranged childhood friend, Jamboree. Along with a few other outsiders, they pack into an RV and head across the state on the road trip Angie’s sister did not live to take. It might be just what Angie needs to find a way to let her sister go, and find herself in the process.

Praise for FAT ANGIE: REBEL GIRL REVOLUTION

Fortunately and refreshingly, the text gives Angie no weight-loss arc…A welcomingly awkward, offbeat journey for a “gay-girl gay” girl with many heartaches. ―Kirkus Reviews

In this companion to the Stonewall Award–winning Fat Angie, Angie’s girlfriend has moved away, Angie is constantly bullied as she starts as a sophomore after repeating her freshman year, her mother still can’t stand her, and her former best friend, Jamboree, is back in town…it’s still good to see Angie, a very human combination of neuroses, fears, truths, and desires, break through some of her defenses and take risks, from singing to loving. ―Publishers Weekly

My Review:

“Life is heart and ache. You can’t have one without the other.”

I’ve been waiting for this second book for six years and it’s finally here. Fat Angie was one of those books that opened my eyes to the world of bullying and it made so many emotions come pouring out of my soul all at once. I was happy, sad, and sometimes angry at the people and scenarios of the book. I’m glad Angie is back with a more hopeful story.

Angie is in her sophomore year of high school and she’s hoping that this year is different. But she soon learns that things haven’t changed and people are making it their top priority to make her life a living hell. Making her relive her breakdown at a pep-rally and the death of her sister. And it’s not like she is getting any help from her Mother at home.

Things are not going her way this year and she is ready to throw in the towel. Her best friend, Jake is dating someone who used to bully her, Gary Klein is at his worst and tormenting Angie until she almost gives up, and her ex-friend Jamboree is back and thinner than ever. She feels as if there is no one else to go to, now that her sister and her best friend are gone. Angie’s mother is making her go see a therapist about her behavior lately but she has to prove to her new therapist that she is getting better and learning how to stand up for herself.

Angie is trying to stay strong as they dedicate a memorial statue to her deceased sister. At the memorial service, someone that knew her sister leaves a letter her sister wrote to her before she passed away. Reading the note floods Angie with emotions and now she’s on a mission to live out the dreams of her sister.

Angie and Jamboree put the past behind them as they go on a journey of a lifetime and live out Angie’s sister last wishes. They are traveling through Ohio and seeing the sights her sister wanted them to go visit and to get Angie out of her comfort zone. In a packed RV, will Angie learn to love herself without her sister? Or will she let her past ruin her life?

Fat Angie: Rebel Girl Revolution was a really good book. It was emotional to get through because of what Angie was dealing with. It really hurt when her own Mother wouldn’t stand up for her and chose to believe someone else. That really got to me. But the end was something of a fairy tale and it filled me with joy. The deeper meaning is what holds this all together.

But carefree days of beach visits and normalling lessons are soon interrupted by a discovery–a subterranean bunker that belonged to Jacob’s grandfather, Abe.

Clues to Abe’s double-life as a peculiar operative start to emerge, secrets long hidden in plain sight. And Jacob begins to learn about the dangerous legacy he has inherited–truths that were part of him long before he walked into Miss Peregrine’s time loop.

Now, the stakes are higher than ever as Jacob and his friends are thrust into the untamed landscape of American peculiardom–a world with few ymbrynes, or rules–that none of them understand. New wonders and dangers await in this brilliant next chapter for Miss Peregrine’s peculiar children. Their story is again fully illustrated by haunting vintage photographs, but with a striking addition for this all-new, multi-era American adventure–full color.

My Review:

“Never have I doubted my soundness of mind as often as I did on that first night, when the bird-woman and her wards came to save me from the madhouse.”

The Peculiars have finally made it to America!!

My friends and I jumped at the chance to receive an advanced copy of this book at Ala. It was worth every minute we waited in line. I’m so over the moon that I’ll finally have a galley of a Peculiars book to add to my collection.

We were all saddened by the death of Abe and it still tears me apart to think about it. The Peculiars are here on official business and to also say goodbye to a dear friend, but we all know that when they all get together something devious always gets in their way.

I really enjoyed this one even though I didn’t find it as adventurous and mind-twisting as the others in this series. It did capture my attention and I couldn’ put it down. There was just something different about this one.

I loved reconnecting with the Peculiars. Everything about this was just fantastic.

What really got me was finding some truths about an old friend. What comes to surface will shock you and I can’t wait for another book in this series. I’m saddened that we’ll have to wait over a year for another one.

The Vintage and creepy photographs are back and if you don’t add this to your tbr then you’re really missing out.
