“Fierce and unrelenting…Do yourself a favor and get lost in this beautiful book!” — Tomi Adeyemi, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Children of Blood and Bone

Set in a kingdom where danger lurks beneath the sea, mermaids seek vengeance with song, and magic is a choice, Adalyn Grace’s All the Stars and Teeth is a thrilling fantasy for fans of Stephanie Garber’s Caraval and Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass series.

She will reign.

As princess of the island kingdom Visidia, Amora Montara has spent her entire life training to be High Animancer—the master of souls. The rest of the realm can choose their magic, but for Amora, it’s never been a choice. To secure her place as heir to the throne, she must prove her mastery of the monarchy’s dangerous soul magic.

When her demonstration goes awry, Amora is forced to flee. She strikes a deal with Bastian, a mysterious pirate: he’ll help her prove she’s fit to rule, if she’ll help him reclaim his stolen magic.

But sailing the kingdom holds more wonder—and more peril—than Amora anticipated. A destructive new magic is on the rise, and if Amora is to conquer it, she’ll need to face legendary monsters, cross paths with vengeful mermaids, and deal with a stow-away she never expected… or risk the fate of Visidia and lose the crown forever.

I am the right choice. The only choice. And I will protect my kingdom.

Bruja Born: An Interview with Zoraida Córdova

Happy Friday, everyone! I hope you all have had a great week! I, for sure, did! I had the wonderful pleasure of joining a Google Hangouts Chat with Zoraida yesterday and it was so much fun to be able to hang with her and ask her questions about her writing. And I also had the great opportunity of interviewing Zoraida!

If any of you follow my social media (mainly Twitter), you probably know by now that I love Zoraida’s work. I cannot wait to read Bruja Born and gush about the book to all of you! I already know it’s going to be fantastic!

Below is some information about Bruja Born and the author, Zoraida Córdova, and then the interview!

About Bruja Born

33918887Three sisters. One spell. Countless dead.

Lula Mortiz feels like an outsider. Her sister’s newfound Encantrix powers have wounded her in ways that Lula’s bruja healing powers can’t fix, and she longs for the comfort her family once brought her. Thank the Deos for Maks, her sweet, steady boyfriend who sees the beauty within her and brings light to her life.

Then a bus crash turns Lula’s world upside down. Her classmates are all dead, including Maks. But Lula was born to heal, to fix. She can bring Maks back, even if it means seeking help from her sisters and defying Death herself. But magic that defies the laws of the deos is dangerous. Unpredictable. And when the dust settles, Maks isn’t the only one who’s been brought back…

Meet the Author

ZoraidaZoraida Córdova is the author of urban fantasies The Vicious Deep trilogy and the Brooklyn Brujas series. Her short fiction has appeared in the New York Times bestselling anthology, Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View. Zoraida’s most recent release, Labyrinth Lost, won an International Latino Book award, was named a Best Book of 2016 by Paste Magazine and has been optioned by Paramount Studios. Zoraida is also the author of the upcoming Hollow Crown, to be published by Disney Hyperion in 2019.

An Interview with Zoraida Córdova

1. What inspired you to write Lula’s story?

When I wrote Labyrinth Lost I knew that the Mortiz sisters weren’t done telling their stories. In book one, Lula went through an Ordeal™. What came next? I didn’t want to mess up Alex’s ending, so the point of view had to change. This was Lula’s story to tell.

2. How difficult was it to write Lula’s story compared to Alex’s story in Labyrinth Lost?

Lula’s story was definitely more difficult. Her thoughts are darker and she has a tough choice. The boy she loves or doing the right thing? If faced with the same choice as Lula, what would any of us decide?

3. If you could have one magical power, what would it be?

I would absolutely want to be able to teleport. It would make my travel so much easier!

4. What was your favorite part of writing Bruja Born?

It was the scenes when the brujas, the hunters of New York, and the supernatural alliance comes together. I got to give a guest spot to some characters from my first series, The Vicious Deep.

5. What advice would you give to aspiring authors?

Read widely. That’s the best way to work on your craft. You learn your voice with every draft you write.

Thank you so much, Zoraida, for the interview!

Don’t forget to check out Labyrinth Lost and to pre-order Bruja Born! And keep your receipt! 🙂

Have a wonderful weekend, fellow book lovers!

Unboxing: Surprise Book Mail from Entangled Teen

I came home yesterday afternoon after a long day of work and noticed a package sitting on the front porch of my house. It was addressed to me from Entangled Teen. I was not expecting anything from this amazing publishing company, so this surprise package definitely peaked my interest. And I absolutely fell in love with everything inside. Everything inside this mystery box is to celebrate the upcoming release of Haven by Mary Lindsey, which hits bookstores November 7. Haven has been on my upcoming TBR list for months, so I was beyond thrilled to receive this Haven package from Entangled Teen!

The first item inside the box was a hardcover edition of Haven by Mary Lindsey. Haven is the first book in a new Young Adult Paranormal series. Check out the summary below:

Haven

“We all hold a beast inside. The only difference is what form it takes when freed.”

Rain Ryland has never belonged anywhere, He’s used to people judging him for his rough background, his intimidating size, and now, his orphan status. He’s always been on the outside, looking in, and he’s fine with that. Until he moves to New Wurzburg and meets Friederike Burkhart.

Freddie isn’t like normal teen girls, though. And someone wants her dead for it. Freddie warns he’d better stay far away if he wants to stay alive, but Rain’s never been good at running from trouble. For the first time, Rain has something worth fighting for, worth living for. Worth dying for.

Doesn’t this book sound amazing?! I definitely think so! Paranormal is one of my top genres for Young Adult, and if Paranormal is one of yours, too, you are not going to want to miss out on this book!

The second item in the box was a Haven themed tote bag. I am a huge lover of tote bags, and this beautiful tote bag will be joining my ever-growing collection of bookish-themed bags.

Another surprise item was a Haven themed coffee mug. I love coffee and tea so this mug will definitely not go to waste. The coffee mug is gorgeous and a perfect addition to my collection! I especially love the quote!

Also inside the box was some awesome wolf themed items! A stunningly beautiful wolf charm bookmark, one of my absolutely favorite items from this surprise box. Wolves are one of my favorite animals, and the charm is a perfect fit for me (and my Siberian Husky) so this charm will most likely be going with me wherever I go. Also with the wolf charm came two stickers: a wolf and Haven sticker. Anyone who knows me knows that stickers are one of my top bookish items (along with bookmarks, postcards, and maps) to collect. A small bag of lavender was also included in this box, which has such an amazing smell!

The last items in the box were an “I’m a Book Nerd” poster, an Entangled Teen portable charger outlet (thank you so much for this!)  and two Godiva chocolate (SUCH GOOD CHOCOLATE!!). I love the poster because it is completely true! The fact that books take up almost two/thirds of my room says enough. As I like to think, my life is not complete unless I am surrounded by books.

Thank you, Entangled Teen for such an awesome surprise box! I am beyond excited to start reading Haven by Mary Lindsey and I cannot wait to put that Haven coffee mug to use!

Haven by Mary Lindsey comes out on November 7, 2017. And if you pre-order, there is an AMAZING pre-order campaign! Check out the campaign here.
