*Book Review* Consider This: Moments in My Writing Life After Which Everything Was Different- Chuck Palahniuk

52500766. sx318 sy475 Renowned, bestselling novelist Chuck Palahniuk takes us behind the scenes of the writing life, with postcards from decades on the road and incredible examination of the power of fiction and the art of storytelling.

In this spellbinding blend of memoir and insight, bestselling author Chuck Palahniuk shares stories and generous advice on what makes writing powerful and what makes for powerful writing.

With advice grounded in years of careful study and a keenly observed life, Palahniuk combines practical advice and concrete examples from beloved classics, his own books, and a”kitchen-table MFA” culled from an evolving circle of beloved authors and artists, with anecdotes, postcards from the road, and much more.

Clear-eyed, sensitive, illuminating, and knowledgeable, Consider This is Palahniuk’s love letter to stories and storytellers, booksellers and books themselves. Consider it a classic in the making.

“Welcome to America, our never-ending, great popularity contest. And to capitalism, where likability trumps everything else.”

Chuck Palahniuk creates a masterpiece of useful information about writing with bizarre and insightful memories of his own trials and tribulations of writing and book tours.

There was a point where I imagined where Chuck was Jack Torrance from The Shining. Where he’s just looking for the right way to blow people’s minds in the most explosive and disgusting way. (Don’t ask)

Reading this book made me appreciate who he is as a person and all of his books. You get a glimpse inside who he is and how he thinks. Plus you get some history of his greatest work. It makes me want to reread everything he’s ever released.

Consider This was a phenomenal book from a powerhouse author. This is one of the many reasons why he’s my number one. There’s no holding things back with him and he doesn’t sugarcoat anything.

If you want to know the story behind his GG Allin author photo, read this book!!

*Review* Verity- Colleen Hoover

43225180Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.

Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity’s notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn’t expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity’s recollection of what really happened the day her daughter died.

Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen’s feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife’s words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.

A standalone romantic thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover, releasing December 18th.

My Review:

“What you read will taste so bad at times, you’ll want to spit it out, but you’ll swallow these words and they will become part of you, part of your gut, and you will hurt because of them.”

Colleen Hoover steps out of her comfort zone and brings a riveting thriller to the table. An unexpected tale that you won’t be able to put down. This is the best possible way to lose sleep.

Lowen is dealing with the aftermath of losing her Mother and is struggling to gain her ground as a writer. She gets the call of a lifetime to finish a mystery series for a very famous author who is no longer able to write due to an injury she suffered after her being involved in a car accident. She’s hesitant at first but the money that is offered it too hard to pass up. That money will save her from complete ruin.

She picks up her life and moves into the Crawford residence. Lowen has years and years of notes and scrap pieces of papers to go through to help her complete this series. Thinking maybe she can find an outline or any information that will help her in any way. What she stumbles upon is something that will make her start to question everything. It’s a manuscript for an autobiography by Verity Crawford.

Lowen decides to keep it a secret to save Jeremy (Verity’s Husband) from dealing with more grief. He already lost his twin girls in two separate accidents and now is helping take care of his wife who is confined to a bed or a wheelchair. But as Lowen reads on and starts falling in love with Jeremy, she contemplates showing him this morbid manuscript.

Will Jeremy learn the truth about his wife? Or will Lowen complete the series while biting her tongue?

This book was full of crazy twists and turns that I didn’t know where to look next. There are not enough words in this language to warn you about how morbid and disturbing this book was but I loved every single page. CoHo leaves her comfy space to bring you something dark and twisted. I never knew that she could write something like this and I hope she continues with this genre. She was made for the dark and disturbing.

Verity is a novel that will shock you and turn your blood cold. Everything in this book will make you rethink everything and to trust no one. This was so intense that I couldn’t put it down. Just be ready to be mind-blown and to have your mind scattered in a million different pieces. This will definitely be the page-turner of the year.

*Blog Tour & Giveaway* Beneath the Lighthouse- Julieanne Lynch

Welcome to our official tour stop for Beneath the Lighthouse! We have our review and giveaway posted below. Enjoy!!!

   SYNOPSIS

26081449    SOME SECRETS ARE MADE TO BE UNCOVERED.

Sixteen-year-old Jamie McGuiness’s sister is dead. Sinking into a deep depression, he frequents the lighthouse where her body was discovered, unaware of the sinister forces surrounding him.

When an angry spirit latches onto Jamie, he’s led down a dark and twisted path, one that uncovers old family secrets, destroying everything Jamie ever believed in.

Caught between the world of the living and the vengeful dead, Jamie fights the pull of the other side. It’s up to Jamie to settle old scores or no one will rest in peace—but, first, he has to survive.

Praise for BENEATH THE LIGHTHOUSE

“Beneath the Lighthouse grabs you by the nether regions from the word go. Then it squeezes. Hard. With a nailed glove … A truly scary ghost story … a powerful ‘coming of age’ drama … a young man growing into adulthood against a backdrop of despair and quite shocking abuse … unpredictable and ever building. Blood and bone revenge, retribution and salvation. The strength of friendship, the power of love. You feel the dread and the underlying fear … not your typical tale. And what a tale it is.” ―EM Faustus

My Review:

“From within the mirror, flesh swam toward him, crawling out of the glass. Her clammy fingers reached for him. Black veins traced over her skin. Her mouth opened in a silent scream. Dark matter dropped from her swollen lips. Her unblinking eyes stared hard into his. She moved closer to him, her dislocated jaw and broken teeth in full view. Without warning, a piercing screech erupted from her mouth and she charged toward him.”

Beneath the Lighthouse was one of those books where I thought I had it all figured out within the first fifty pages. As things progressed, I became shocked as the twist and turns revealed themselves. I was so wrong and I couldn’t be happier. This book was magnificent.

Jamie has quite a rough life. His sister passed away under mysterious circumstances, his Dad is a pisser who can’t control his hands, and he thinks he’s going mad.

Hanging out on the coast where his sister’s body was found, he spots an aspiration and she follows him. She lets her presence be known. She shows him eerie things to open up his eyes to who some people really are and to help set her spirit free.

As things start to spiral out of control, will Jamie be able to help his Mum overcome an abusive relationship and save a ghost to set her free?

This was so much more than a possession book. It was spooky but had a lot of heartbreaking moments but also a little sunshine throughout. It had so many unexpected scenes that I couldn’t stop reading this.

Beneath the Lighthouse is an eerie mystery that will keep you guessing up until the very end. A definite read on a cold and gloomy night. Just look over your shoulder when you feel that sudden coldness…..

WWW waiting on Wednesday contemporary edition

Every Wednesday is the 3 questions what are you reading? What did you finish recently and what will you think will read next.

Unlike nikole that’s heavy fantasy I’m on the other end of the spectrum like usual I love contemporary’s.

1. What are you currently reading??? I am reading nice try Jane sinner by Lianne Oelke

So far just 50 pages so can’t say. Just all you know is Jane is expelled from school we don’t know why, but she has gone to college classes and joined a college reality tv show like big brother. So the plot is intriguing.

2. What do I plan to read next?

What I plan to read next if I can even find it is

Like said on Monday it’s been in my good reads tbr forever so if I can find my recently purchased book I’ll read it if not I’ll read meet cute which is short stories by some big named ya authors.

3. What have you recently finished

The books I have recently finished was ready player one & now a major motion picture.

I saw ready player 1 before the book and the movie was amazing 😉 saw it fir 3rd time today, but to the book yes a lot of things are different but the book was just as good. It’s def more 80’s pop cultured and challenges different big time but both for their own was amazing. Now the other book now a major motion picture is about a girl and her family. The mc’s grand ma was a insanely popular author similar make it out to jk Rowling and turning their grand Ma’s book to a movie. The mc grew up not liking the fame light on family so when forced to go to set she is not happy. But yea I loved this book is half a normal person to celebrity novel and half self learning book 5/5 stars.

So have any contemporary books your excited for or one just read you loved give us some love and hit the title to us in the comments :).

Chasing helicity by ginger zee

Ahh another ginger zee book that was on tap for me. When was able to get this arc I was jumping and down like crazy reason being is when I’m not reading one of my other passions is weather and have had that passion since a young age. So when you see this book you think tornado and weather plus in the title is helicity which means to spin. Which it def is. And this book is about 13 year old helicity who is about to thru a major change. Where at start of the book helicity is frustrated with her family since helicity in high school wants to get into honors classes but her parents don’t so she gets frustrated and takes her horse for a ride. Along the ride she starts to see a storm go up and watches it till suddenly see’s the storm getting violent. As she rushes home a tornado forms and thru her eyes watches as her town gets destroyed. Rest of the book picks where her town is leveled and suffering slightly what most victims go thru with ptsd and see’s how her life’s changed. All this was amazingly displayed and loved it as weather nerd and storm chasers. After this though book goes down hill. I’m going go do *spoilers now* I usually don’t but I need to get it out their and just preying its the arc and just not finished. But after town is destroyed. Her dad is blaming helicity for her star studded football player getting hurt. But after the hospital he is home complaining of pain takes meds doctor gave. Then it seems not a week later or 2 he is out of pills and dad gets more and sayes that the brother gets guilty look when helicity looks at him or thoughts but doesn’t think much more. I get it’s middle grade and saw the hints what brother was doing but doesn’t go into details. Another thing that happens is later bring a crush for helicity. He is 17 year old guy has the excitement for weather and young and immature like a lot of young storm chasers but way he acts it has sooo many vibes of some famous chaser or chasers, one I know ginger zee dated. Aka reed timmer. Who was on the show storm chasers on discovery channel. The guy in this book still seems cool but then later wants the photo so bad that helicity took of the tornado and he later sells it and gives most of money to helicity. She is mad that he did it with no thought to ask. And ginger trying to show that helicity doing stuff just for love of weather and not sell and the guy gets absolutely no repercussion from it at all. Forgot to add with the brother is at one point helicity hanging with brother and goes pick something up and is with brother and sayes gets up again and brother is looking odd. Later on the trip she is missing some money from her purse. Again this hints at things but then just left open ended. Last very last part of the book she is able to go on a storm chase with a meterlogist/ storm chaser and her guy crush. And it’s been raining hard in city their in for days. The guy and helicity find a time where with out asking takes the car to chase a storm and the kid is driving aggressive and fast and just being dangerous with helicity wanting to get out. Well he puts it through a flood. He gets hurt but she doesn’t. But as she is being rescued by emergency and stuff. Out comes to rescue as well is her chaser friend the meterlogist. Well let’s say one survives while other doesn’t “technically she does but in coma” but it’s left next page after that like I’m helicity I made bad decisions but I’m a survivor. 1 as a middle grade book I feel that might discourage people to not like weather or want to read books. And 2 I felt would of flowed better for storm chase she had actually gotten her tornado in a field that’s it and show she over came tornado fear while still taking the beauty of Mother Nature…. sorry I’m just so annoyed at all the things left open that are touched on then not.

3/5 stars this book could of been higher and loved it but so many flaws.

~~~~JUSTIN 3/5 stars
Darker by E.L. James
Ahh yes that’s right it’s another fifty shades book ;). 50/50 split for people a lot are saying nooooo my eyes. Take example my friend jennifer and her doggie blogger Bella from a Bella faerie tale she will be like my eyes noooo!! While I’m here yes yes yes. But going in I waited 2.5 years for this book that’s a life time in book years atleast though not GOT author who takes almost 5-10 years. But this is book 2 from christians pov. The first book left a tad later than Anastasia’s pov which I find oddly interesting. One thing going for book one was big gaps between Anastasia and Christians so was like reading a whole new book, unlike where I will say not going into much detail it is his pov for second but but to the extreme sounded like reading book 2 over again like i was Anastasia than Christian. Also like most shade books the writing is not very good but gotta love it for what it is I think if still are reading you knew this already. But some of the things I still loved is when Christian is not with Ana can see what he does he compassionate, besides so demanding. But get to see the scenes that we didn’t froms Ana’s like the fight with mrs Lincoln at christians party to Leila. But yea over all 4/5 stars since I can’t get enough but hoping last book isn’t 3 years away like book 1 to 2 was.
4/5 stars ~~~~ JUSTIN
Reign of the Fallen- Sarah Glenn Marsh
insta
”Since you’ve been gone, I don’t even feel right in my own skin anymore. It’s like I’m missing a part, a lung or a kidney, and the rest of me can’t figure out how to work together without that one piece.”
At first, I felt confused. Like all this world and character building was overwhelming my mind at once and I couldn’t keep pace. But once it picked up, it was hard to put down.
I was dazzled by the dark and mesmerizing tale that felt more horror and diverse than anything I’ve ever read. Oh, My Stars!!! This should be on everyone’s tbr.
Your jaw will drop at the beautifulness that is brought forth through Sarah’s words. Her storytelling building is too phenomenal for words. I can’t say it enough, this will be one of the YA books of the year.
Odessa is the bisexual badass heroine we were all looking for in a lead character. She took no shit and gave it right back. Bow down to this new queen who has flaws and who we admire anyway.
If the synopsis doesn’t fully grasp you then this stunning cover will. That cover is to throw you off from the dark and the mysterious that will greet you at the opening page.
Be forewarned, this fantasy tale is extremely violent. It contains a lot of battle sequences with death looming throughout and rising from the ground. It also deals with addiction that is sequential to the whole story.
Brace yourselves! Don’t say that I didn’t warn you!
